The Brazilian antitrust authority approves the acquisition of Grupo BIG by Carrefour

SAO PAULO, May 25 (Reuters) – Brazil’s antitrust authority, CADE, on Wednesday gave conditional approval to the acquisition of food retailer Grupo BIG by Carrefour Brasil, the local subsidiary of French supermarket chain Carrefour.

Carrefour has already accepted the conditions set by the authority, which consist in selling certain stores.

The operation, which values Grupo BIG around $1.3 billion, was announced in March 2021 but still required the green light from CADE. (Report Alberto Alerigi Jr., French version Jean-Michel Blot, told by Matthieu Protard)
