PARIS (Reuters) – Actress Judith Godrèche was greeted with a standing ovation on Friday at the 49th César ceremony after her speech, during which she denounced sexual violence in the film industry.

“Why accept that this art that we love so much, this art that binds us, is used as a cover for illicit trafficking in young girls?” asked Judith Godrèche.

“I think we are experiencing the French MeToo – we took time and we are experiencing it now,” said French director Justine Triet, whose film “Anatomy of a Fall” was won six awards, including Best Film and Best Direction.

Judith Godrèche, 51, filed a complaint for “violent rape of a minor under 15” against the French director Benoît Jacquot, 77, with whom she had a relationship at the end of the 1980s, when she was a teenager.

Reuters was unable to reach Benoît Jacquot for comment.

Sandra Hüller won the César for best actress for her role in “Anatomy of a Fall”, in which she plays a mother accused of having killed her husband.

The César for best actor was awarded to Arieh Worthalter for his role in “The Goldman Trial”.
