But now, a new enemy haunts its corridors: the biophagous robot, affectionately nicknamed the “Biobot” by the developers. This terrifying foe combines UJC security robots and biophages in a cocktail that evokes the permanent horror of Black Iron.

Guirao explains: “In the main game, you only see the robots once or twice. In this final chapter, we explored the idea of ​​a biophage infecting a machine. »

It was through an iterative process that the intimidating and grotesque biomechanical aspect of the Biobot was born. “We worked with the team responsible for the concept drawings to make it fit as well as possible in the universe of The Callisto Protocol. It took several attempts to achieve its final appearance. We leaned too much on the robotic side and the biological side. Lots of robotic elements made it too close to security bots, and it lacked the gory, organic vibe the team was looking for. On the other hand, our overly organic version gave him a fragile air that was inseparable from the enemies already in the game. The team finally managed to find the right balance. – Guirao

Even with its little nickname, the Biobot remains a formidable enemy. As one of the lead system designers explained, “Security bots are big and intimidating, they can only be defeated with an accurate headshot. Guirao adds: “Our game is not a tactical game where you have to take cover, so it was normal to make it a melee enemy. Our idea of ​​combat is to overwhelm the player in close combat, and that suits us perfectly. »

Guirao and the development team at Striking Distance have watched hundreds of hours of videographers playing The Callisto Protocol. “A lot of feedback was criticizing NPCs that all looked the same so we wanted to fix that. To survive, players must employ new tactics to defeat the Biobots, but once they obtain the new melee weapon, they will have the ability to take revenge on them and “pulverize them”.

The Biobot isn’t the only new enemy you’ll encounter in Black Iron. Without spoiling the surprise, know that the Final Transmission boss is one of a kind. “Our goal is to showcase the Kinetic Hammer and push players to figure out the best way to defeat the boss by deciding when to use melee attacks or ranged attacks, and when to use the arena to their advantage.
