DECRYPTION – The former Prime Minister wants to improve the lives of Régie agents to reduce absenteeism and restore normal service in transport.

Lines 3, 5, 8, 12, the Noctilien… Since he took over as head of the RATP a fortnight ago, Jean Castex has been traveling the Paris metro in all directions and jumps on the bus when he has a moment. What to get a first idea on the anger of the users, tired of waiting for crowded trains, and on the morale of the agents, weighed down by the changes in the company. The former Prime Minister has set himself a main objective: to restore public transport in the Paris region. What he was already saying in early November in the Senate: “My priority of priorities is the core business, and the core business is meeting user expectations”.

First observation, the return to normal service will be long. While IDFM (Ile-de-France Mobilités) asks the RATP to return in March 2023 to 100% of the offer, it is not certain that the Régie will succeed. Blame it on the shortage of drivers, but also on the rise in absenteeism. And the next pension reform, against which the agents…
