The challenge of changing skis – healthy Gisin relaxes like never before – sport

The woman from Obwalden has had a pleasant summer training with “soul care” and is relaxed in the winter of the World Cup.

If you become Olympic champion after a catastrophic pre-season, you don’t have to fear anything anymore. And this is the impression Michelle Gisin is making these days.

In 2021, the Engelberg native missed almost all of the summer training due to glandular fever, only got on the skis in October – and won combination gold and Super-G bronze in Beijing.

“Like another world”

“In contrast, the preparation this year was like a different world,” said the 28-year-old. “You appreciate when you’re healthy.” Life has come back, especially outside of the classic training plan. Trying out things like windsurfing or sailing is “very important for the soul”.

Gisin’s biggest challenge before the start of the season on October 22nd in Sölden is adapting to the new ski brand. After 15 years with Rossignol, the 19-time World Cup podium rider will be riding with Salomon this winter.

«Puzzle pieces are ready»

She approaches the new skis. “The pieces of the puzzle are ready, but I haven’t been able to put them together in all four disciplines.” However, Gisin has a double advantage: she was able to test extensively in the spring. And: “I get a lot of motivation from the fact that the team behind me is infinitely motivated.”

She’s trying to do a good race in Sölden, but she’s not stressing: “I currently have almost more respect for an early form than for not getting in shape at all.” A lack of patience is no longer an issue for the two-time World Cup medalist after the “hardcore mental training” in summer 2021.
