The Citroën Ami becomes mole

The Citroën Ami goes from the regularly mocked blue-gray to a new, more discreet dark brown color.

It’s a small revolution, the Citroën Ami changes color! This time, it’s neither stickers nor a limited edition, like Ami Buggy. The bluish tint changes to a dark brown tending towards gray. A new color that decor experts will call by its most precise name: “taupe”. Citroën has just confirmed this change via a press release sent on May 2.

Will this save the Friend from the mockery that accompanied his former color? by default ? In any case, it’s a good way to mark the four years of this license-free mobility device. Citroën is also taking the opportunity to launch a new finish called “My Ami peps”.

New color and new finish

If some Citroën Amis are covered with covering (decorative self-adhesive film) to differentiate them, the majority of vehicles in circulation have remained in their original color. The blue-gray color, which was very original when it was released in 2020, ended up getting boring.

This new “Night Sepia” shade, which is a dark brown tending to gray, brings a touch of novelty. The Citroën teams took care to find a color that matched the existing kits to personalize the model.

If this new color is a little close to the khaki of Ami Buggy, it is not the same shade. This new feature should relaunch the Citroën Ami in the race for new customers. The Ami could indeed suffer from the arrival of competition from its cousin Fiat Topolino. This one is slowly starting to capture the public’s attention with its cute face and its fine green color.

Citroën is also taking the opportunity to reorganize its range. The Peps finish appears in the catalog as the new “top of the range”. It will absorb Tonic and Pop finishes. The entry-level finishes, however, remain identical.

On the other hand, customers will not be offered any improvement in interior comfort or any technical change. The machine remains true to itself, with its qualities and its faults.

Already 50,000 Friends

The 4th anniversary of Citroën Ami is also an opportunity to celebrate reaching 50,000 owners. The Citroën Ami is sold in 14 European countries, but France remains its largest market.

Since 2020, the Citroën Ami has also been available in Opel Rocks-e and Fiat Topolino. All are based on the same principle: a 2-seater electric vehicle, without a license, limited to 45 km/h which can reach a range of 75 km. These models are a small revolution for electric mobility within cities, all at a knockdown price.

The Citroën Ami is sold in France from €7,990, before deduction of €900 bonus. The new 2024 version including the new color will be available for purchase by the end of May or beginning of June. The brand has not communicated a deadline for the delivery of the first models.

This atypical machine has created a small revolution in the world of electric mobility without a license. This is a trend to follow occasionally in our Watt Else newsletter, dedicated to electric cars and their ecosystem.
