The Constitutional Council validated this Friday the pension reform carried out by Emmanuel Macron which must come into force on September 1. This notably provides for raising the legal starting age to 64 years. Without having had the effect of rendering the legislative procedure contrary to the Constitution, the institution emphasizes in its press release that the combined use of the procedures implemented has taken on an unusual character. Thus, the court recalls that it was responsible for verifying compliance with the Constitution and not for deciding all the debates that the pension reform may raise.
However, six provisions of the government bill – like the creation of a senior index – were rejected by the Elders. We also find article 3, relating to the end-of-career permanent contract, and article 6, which made certain changes to the organization of the collection of social security contributions.
