the crew is growing for season 2, that promises!

The live action adaptation of One Piece will soon welcome a season 2. And, to bring it to fruition, the Netflix team welcomes a brand new face.

The Netflix version of One Piece was the pleasant surprise of 2023. Considering the wacky and excessive universe of Eiichirō Oda, the live action adaptation was a major challenge! But it was successfully raised by showrunner Matt Owens and his teams. Thus, the series received a very favorable reception and was a real hit on the SVOD platform.

Given this feat, the crew of Luffy and his comrades don’t seem ready to stop at Netflix. Not only has the platform invested to welcome the anime into its catalog, but the platform reportedly has long-term plans for the live action series.

In the immediate future, it is already preparing for its second season. To bring this project to fruition, the crew is growing behind the scenes.

A newcomer to the One Piece series

At the helm of season 1 of this One Piece in the flesh, we found Matt Owens. The screenwriter and director had previously worked on small Star Wars projects and, above all, at Marvel with the series Agents of SHIELD and Luke Cage. The latter is, in fact, a Netflix production; the platform therefore had complete confidence in him to lead a project such as the adaptation of Oda’s manga.

But, for season 2, the man will not be alone at the helm. In fact, a document from the very official Writers Guild of America West (WGAW) further specifies the team that will be in charge of the continuation of the Mugiwara epic.

Thus, we discover that Matt Owens will be assisted as showrunner by Joseph E. Tracz, said Joe Tracz, for season 2 of One Piece. Screenwriter and producer, the latter recently distinguished himself with the series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, broadcast on Disney+. He has also previously worked for Netflix, on the romantic comedy Dash & Lily.

It is therefore a personality in tune with theheroic spirit and self-improvement who boards the One Piece ship. With a season 2 directed by four hands, this sequel could achieve even greater ambitions. However, you will have to be patient to see the proof on our screens. In the meantime, fans of the Straw Hats can rejoice because their favorite manga will soon be celebrating a special birthday, and they’re invited!
