Thus, the actress Claire Foy (first-man), who portrayed the monarch in the first two seasons of the series, and Olivia Colman (The Favorite), who played him in seasons 3 and 4, will resume their role in this season 6.

A fourth actress, Vila Prettejohn (The Nevers), will play it even younger, at the time of the Second World War. The three women join the casting Imelda Staunton, interpreter of the queen since the fifth season.

These additions suggest that this final chapter will be Netflix’s way of paying a big homage to Elizabeth II’s long life, with multiple scenes set in her past. An idea which, according to a source close to the production, was added following the death of the Windsor matriarch last September.

According to this source, Netflix will “bringing Her Majesty’s story to a sensational end, having chronicled virtually her entire life in 60 episodes […] It also indicates the respect and affection the show’s creators have for Elizabeth II, although they may not feel the same way about the royal family as an institution.”.
