The Crown: who stole the Queen’s jewels?

A theft was committed on the set of the fifth season of the series “The Crown”; the total cost of the damage is estimated at around 200,000 euros by the production of the Netflix show!

Currently filming in the north of England, the fifth season of The Crown is now being talked about in the news section. Once is not custom, it is not because of any historical infidelity that the Netflix series is controversial, but for having been the victim of a large-scale theft (source: variety).

350 valuables were indeed stolen by several unidentified thugs, for damage estimated at more than 200,000 euros in losses! Among the missing objects, gold and silver candlesticks, a replica of the egg in the coronation carriage dating from 1897, religious icons, a silver table service…

An investigation has been opened by the South Yorkshire police, while the production of the series will probably not be impacted by this theft. Asked by our colleagues from the specialist magazine Antiques Trade Gazetteseries production designer Alison Harvey said the stolen items were unlikely to be resold for exorbitant prices due to their poor condition, but that the props were nonetheless invaluable in the eyes of the British film industry.

Bringing together Imelda Staunton (Elizabeth II), Dominic West (Prince Charles) or even Elizabeth Debicki (Diana Spencer), the fifth season of The Crown will premiere exclusively on Netflix next November.
