The curfew works "very well" for Jérôme Salomon

The curfew is an effective measure against the spread of the coronavirus, believes Jérôme Salomon. The Director General of Health also affirms that it is still possible to avoid a general reconfinement.

The 6 p.m. curfew throughout France is one of the "strong braking measures" put in place by the government, according to Jérôme Salomon. The Director General of Health explains in an interview with Sunday newspaper he "works very well" and "responds well to the issue of private gatherings and is also of great interest to our neighbors who were surprised by its effects".

However, there is no question of slacking off now, since "the situation is obviously very tense". Jérôme Salomon also hopes for good results with the local confinements at the weekend, implemented this week in the Nice and Dunkirk regions. "We are going to study what (this measure) gives but we know, given the example in Guyana, that it works", he explains, stressing that these "difficult measures (…) have a real impact".

In addition to these departmental restrictions, "regions may also be affected by stricter measures. And if the situation really worsens, the whole of the territory may be affected". In particular because of the English variant, since "is in the majority on French territory (53% of cases according to the latest results", says Jérôme Salomon. However, the Director General of Health reassures by explaining that"we can still avoid confinement if everyone is mobilized". According to him, a total reconfinement must be put in place in "last resort", because "it is the absolute weapon when the curve explodes, but it is a very heavy weapon".
