More and more professionals fear a cancellation of CES 2022, which would then be the second in a row for the big annual Tech Mass.

In the past, yes, let’s not be afraid of the word, the Consumer Electronics Show, says the CES, was a real celebration of the new technologies sector, whose actors were enthusiastic about the idea of meeting each year for a few days in Las Vegas, in order to discover, promote and sell more or less innovative products and solutions. Except that the Covid-19 has been there, and after a physical cancellation and a 2021 edition entirely online at the very beginning of the year, we are heading, perhaps, towards a second consecutive cancellation.

Bad news for CES

CES 2022, to be held from January 5 to 8, is there any chance of being maintained in its physical edition? The more the hours go by, the more the tendency turns to “no”. It must be said that one after the other, many major representatives of the digital and media are withdrawing and announce that they have finally decided not to go to Nevada.

The event, supposed to kick off the year for all manufacturers in the best possible way, was a must-see for the digital ecosystem. But since the start of the pandemic, most of the big planetary fairs, like the MWC, VivaTech and the CES, have either already known the cancellation, or an online edition which obviously does not cause the same enthusiasm.

The 2022 edition of the CES is already marred by several symbolic withdrawals, still in a pandemic context and with the strong push of the Omicron variant which does not spare the United States and which tends to become the majority within the great western powers.

Amazon, Meta, Twitter and T-Mobile give up

Several giants have indicated that they will not participate in the CES in Las Vegas in physics. This is particularly the case of Amazon, T-Mobile, Meta (formerly Facebook group), Twitter, Pinterest or even the La Poste group, for France.

If this is not confirmed, it is not impossible that some pillars of CES will in turn throw in the towel. One thinks in particular of companies like Samsung and AMD, big customers of the show who have already confirmed their physical presence but… to a limited degree. According to The verge, other big names of CES like LG or Sony do not question their participation. But everything can go very quickly.

More astonishing still but oh so revealing, the big American tech media like The verge, TechCrunch, TechRadar, Engadget Where Tom’s Guide have already publicly announced that they will not cover the physical version of the show. For the moment, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), which oversees the event, does not plan to restrict its activities on site.
