The automotive sector welcomes a newcomer: the Skye all-terrain electric car, designed by Ian Callum, a name that resonates with prestige in the automotive industry.
Ian Callum, famous for his collaborations with Jaguar and Aston Martin, is a Scottish designer whose mark is evident in iconic cars such as the Jaguar C-X75 and the electric I-Pace, the latter of which even featured in a film of James Bond.
Two variations
Skye comes in two styles: “Capable” for those who love off-roading, and “Dynamic” for the city. Its buggy look isn’t just for show. There are self-supporting wheels. This technology allows greater autonomy of wheel movement, thus increasing the maneuverability of the vehicle. And with its name coming from a Scottish lake, we can clearly feel its roots.
Skye has impressive dimensions: 4 meters in length and almost 2 meters in width, while maintaining a weight of less than 1.2 tonnes. This lightness is perhaps due to a 42 kilowatt-hour battery, smaller than those usually used in electric vehicles, but sufficient for a range of 270 kilometers.
Large, wide wheels and all-wheel drive promise notable off-road performance, although Callum remains tight-lipped on the technical specifics. However, the vehicle should go from 0 to 100 km/h in around four seconds.
Skye will accommodate four passengers, with large windows and its panoramic roof. The transparency even extends to the lower part of the doors, allowing a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape.
We’ll just have to wait until spring 2024 for all the details, but it looks like one hell of a car!
