We have been waiting for it for several months, the digital vital card is finally starting to arrive on smartphones. The application is indeed available in beta on Android and iOS in certain French departments. We explain how to install it and how it works.
We were expecting it for this year, it’s now done. The State continues its momentum to digitize all our administrative documents by attacking the vital card today. After months of testing and preparation, the official app is now available on Android and iOS. However, this is not yet the official launch, but a new stage in its development.
For the time being, only a few French departments can claim to download the application. The lucky ones can therefore discover a very simple operation for what is intended to be an alternative to the classic vital card, rather than a real replacement. Especially since health professionals must be equipped with the right equipment to read this new version.

How to install and configure the digital vital card
First of all, you have to make sure that you meet certain conditions to be eligible for the digital vital card. Here they are :
- You must reside in one of the following departments:
- Alpes-Maritimes (06)
- Loire-Atlantique (44)
- Puy-de-Dome (63)
- Bas-Rhin (67)
- Rhone (69)
- Saone-et-Loire (71)
- Sarthe (72)
- Seine Maritime (76)
- You must have over 16 years old
- You must be affiliated withHealth Insurancethere MSA or the MGEN
If you meet all of these criteria, congratulations! You can now download the beta version of the Carte Vitale application. All you have to do is configure your account. Here’s all you need to do:
- You must provide an identity document: identity card, passport or residence permit
- Scan your vital card or enter your social Security number
- Send a activation request
Once all these steps have been completed, all you have to do is wait for the digitized version of your vital card to arrive on your smartphone. When this is the case, you can use it with a health professional, in the same way as you would present your physical vital card. Be careful though, the process may not be possible everywhere.
Indeed, the practitioner in question must have a device capable of connecting to your smartphone via NFC technology or, failing that, of reading a QR code that is displayed on your screen. If this is the case, then nothing should fundamentally change for you compared to the classic vital card. All you have to do is present your smartphone for the refund to be made on its own a few days later.
In this, the digital vital card is not destined to replace its big sister – at least for the moment. Still, the application offers some significant advantages to its user, including a history of all health expenses made, which will allow you to monitor your reimbursements in real time. The icing on the cake, your smartphone will not need to be connected to the Internet for the application to work properly.
For the time being, the tests are planned to last several months. The whole territory should be able to download the application from next year, without there being a precise date for the moment.
