The Final Fantasy franchise has just suffered bad news which puts into question many rumors which have been circulating for several months. The disappointment is already being felt.
Since the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, many fans of the license have been asking the following question: whose turn? The biggest rumor that we can report is that concerning the complete overhaul of FF9. But for now, nothing has been confirmed. On the remaster side, there are also a number of theories on the Web. The most famous of them has just been the victim of bad news.
Final Fantasy Tactics Remastered, a simple dream?
We’ve been hearing about a potential visual facelift for Final Fantasy Tactics for several months, the special episode which drastically changes gameplay. It was originally released on PS1 in 1997 in Japan. It was then entitled to a port on PSP in 2007 called The War of the Lions. Finally, it arrived on iOS devices before falling into oblivion. It was then that in February 2022, journalist Jason Schreier made a very special announcement: a remaster for FF Tactics is in the works. Obviously he was wrong.
Indeed, on X (formerly Twitter), fans went to question Yasumi Matsuno, the creator of the game himself, on the question. The developer is clear, there are no plans to put together a remaster of this Final Fantasy. He adds that it is better to ask Square Enix directly, and not him. In itself, this does not rule out the possibility of a new version for the title, since he may not have told the truth not having the right to talk about it. He could have just as easily not responded, but officially no FF Tactics Remastered on the horizon. Especially since his second message leaves room for doubt: “ That’s all I’m in a position to say at the moment. It’s up to you to believe me or not “.
What about FF9 Remake then?
For its part, the Japanese studio has not made any official announcement. At the same time, he must still be busy with the development of FF7 Rebirth and the follow-up to Final Fantasy XIV. We must also keep in mind that we are not safe from simple carrying. So yes, it’s far from ideal, and it won’t please everyone, but it would be a good way for the game to come back to the forefront a little.
As for Final Fantasy 9 Remake, it has a fairly dense story. The first time we heard about it was during the big leak suffered by Nvidia in 2021. The leak was credible, because many of the games mentioned were then officially announced in the months that followed. As a result, the remake of the ninth opus will potentially become reality. But here again, we are in the realm of speculation. For the moment, there has been no confirmation from the firm, and it is not likely to happen soon.
In any case, even if its existence were to be made official, we will have to be patient. At least, if we are to believe the latest rumors. In September 2023, the well-informed leaker Im a Hero Too made some rather worrying comments. According to him, the Final Fantasy 9 remake is real, but it “ needs tweaking “. Its release date is therefore uncertain, to the point that we should not necessarily expect to see it in 2024. We will see if history proves him right.
