the dream of Henry Cavill fans definitely shattered

While the fourth season of the Netflix series The Witcher is in full pre-production, fans have still not recovered from the hasty departure of Henry Cavill, who had until then played the hero Geralt of Rivia.

Remember! At the end of 2022, Henry Cavill, who played the Witcher Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix series The Witcher, formalized his departure from the show, without announcing the reasons. However, the program was far from finished, since season 3 had not yet been broadcast and a fourth had just been announced. Meanwhile, actor Liam Hemsworth (Hunger Games, Independence Day: Resurgence) was chosen to take up the torch: “Geralt has wonderful depth, have fun diving in and seeing what you can find,” Cavill said on his Instagram at the time. If the handover of the role had taken place amicably between the two actors, this hasty departure had the effect of an earthquake among the fans who never recovered.

No return possible for Henry Cavill in The Witcher

Despite a petition which brought together more than 330,000 signatories to bring back Henry Cavill, nothing has succeeded on the fan side. At Netflix on the other hand, a new milestone has been reached since the fourth season of The Witcher is actively in pre-production with filming scheduled for March in the United Kingdom, announces The Redanian Intelligence. This will be the opportunity to discover the first images of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia. That’s not all, since the fifth season is also in development. For the moment, no release date has been given by the streaming service, because the productions have been enormously disrupted by the seriousness of the actors and writers of 2023. As a reminder, seasons 4 and 5 of the series The Witcher was originally scheduled to film in September.

With the delay stored up, we will have to wait at least until the end of 2024 or even 2025 to see the Witcher again on our screens. It is currently very difficult to project beyond season 5 for the Netflix series, the writing of which has advanced significantly according to the well-informed media. The next two parts of The Witcher should be inspired by the three novels: The Baptism of Fire, The Swallow’s Tower and The Lady of the Lake by Andrzej Sapkowski, which are also the last three volumes of the literary series. So this could mean that season 5 could be the last. However, nothing is less certain, because Netflix has gotten into the habit of moving further and further away from the original work. In 2019, producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich even explained to SFX Magazine that she planned to produce seven seasons, alongside Henry Cavill.
