The ecological bonus could ultimately last for a few more years. In any case, this is what the next strategic contract signed between the State and representatives of the French automobile industry suggests.

Our colleagues from the newspaper des Echos managed to recover a 41-page document rich in information: namely the next strategic contract between the French automobile industry and the government for the period 2023-2027. The opportunity for us to discover the different commitments made between the two parties. As might be expected, the emphasis was placed on the electrification of the French vehicle fleet. The executive’s objectives speak for themselves:

  • 2 million electric vehicles manufactured in France by 2030
  • Quadruple sales of 100% electric vehicles by 2027 (i.e. nearly 800,000 units)
  • Multiply sales of electric utility vehicles by six by 2027 (i.e. nearly 100,000 units)

Faced with these important challenges, the State is committed to helping manufacturers and the automobile industry. Not at any price, however. Indeed, certain requests from the PFA (the French Automobile Platform) have fallen by the wayside, like the reduction of production taxes and labor costs. The project to establish “Green Deal Zones”, which consist of a reduction in temporary charges for companies in the sector, was also ruled out. At least until the European elections.

The State maintains the eco bonus and other purchasing aid

Nevertheless, the State wanted to demonstrate good faith by approving certain purchasing aids. Thus, we learn that the ecological bonus, suamortization for professionals and leasing for electric cars will be maintained. It’s the same for the conversion bonusalways cumulative with the bonus.

Unlike Germany which killed its bonus in December 2023, France is therefore determined to promote electric mobility via this mechanism. Reassuring news for manufacturers and motorists who want to upgrade to a wattage model. It now remains to be seen whether the amount of aid will continue to melt like snow in the sun in the years to come. As a reminder, the ceiling for the wealthiest households increased in 2024 from €5,000 to €4,000. On the other hand, the “super-bonus” for the most modest purses remained at €7,000. As for the bonus for used models, it has simply disappeared…
