A decree published in the Official Journal on Monday February 12, and coming into force this Wednesday, validated the suspension of social leasing, but above all modified the amount of the ecological bonus for the wealthiest households.
€1000 reduction in the ecological bonus
In this new decree “relating to aid for the purchase or rental of low-polluting vehicles”, the State first confirms having reduced the ecological bonus by €1000 for “the acquisition of new passenger cars and vans for households in the five highest income deciles”. It thus falls to €4000 instead of €5000. For the most modest households, more precisely from the 6th to the 10th income decile, the ecological bonus remains at €7,000.
However, the decree does not only refer to individuals. Indeed, the government announces a reduction in the ecological bonus of €1,000 for the purchase of new vans, and the total elimination of aid for the acquisition of new cars and used private vehicles and vans for professionals.
Other developments are also being implemented by the government:
- Increase of €1,000 in the amount of electric car leasing aid for used passenger cars;
- €1,000 reduction in the conversion premium, which now stands at €5,000;
- Limitation of the scrappage premium for the purchase of an electric vehicle.
The text also confirms “the suspension of the assistance system for leasing electric cars” after the validation of more than 50,000 orders in just six weeks. The government still announces good news: “There will be a second wave at the end of the year or early next year”.
Please note, the decree mentions the ban on subletting a vehicle benefiting from leasing assistance. It thus introduces a fine of €1,500 in the event of non-compliance with the conditions of vehicle conservation or subletting.
Faced with developments linked to conversion assistance, the ecological bonus and social leasing, a government advisor explained: “The dual objective was to remain within the allocated envelope of 1.5 billion euros for aid for electric vehicles and to better target low-income households.”.
