The electric Renault Scenic won the title of “car of the year” from the European press on Monday.

The small Renault SUV narrowly beat BMW’s new 5 Series sedan, indicated the jury of 58 journalists from the automotive press.

The Scenic succeeds the Jeep Avenger, awarded in 2023.

The ceremony was presented live from the Geneva motor show, which opens its doors on Monday after four years of absence linked to the Covid pandemic.

The diamond group is the only European to participate, while Volkswagen and Stellantis snubbed the show this year with their numerous brands.

Renault launched this modernized and electrified version of its family best-seller at the end of 2023, and the first deliveries should take place in spring 2024.

Compact and rather light for an electric vehicle, at 1,890 kilos, it has a range of up to 625 kilometers (WLTP) for a starting price of under 40,000 euros, excluding bonuses.

The Scenic, the first of its name, had already been crowned in Geneva in 1997. The last Renault to receive an award was the Clio in 2006.
