The life of Franz Beckenbauer is filmed. Filming on the biopic “The Emperor” starring Klaus Steinbacher recently began.

Franz Beckenbauer (76) is probably the most dazzling figure in the German football business. The Kaiser, as the sports legend is often called by fans and the media, is now getting his own biopic. Filming for the film, a Sky Original, recently began in Prague, as announced by Sky Germany.

Klaus Steinbacher (28), known among other things from productions such as “Oktoberfest 1900” and the “Das Boot” series, takes on the leading role in the appropriately titled biopic “The Emperor”. Alongside him, colleagues such as Ferdinand Hofer (29), Teresa Rizos (35), Stefan Murr (45), Oliver Konietzny (34), Bettina Mittendorfer (51), Heinz-Josef Braun (64) and Sina Tkotsch ( 31) to be seen.

That’s what “The Emperor” is about

“The Emperor” tells the story of Beckenbauer, “who fights against encrusted structures and outdated rules in football and for self-determined action as an athlete.” At the same time, he “doesn’t refrain from shaping his private life freely, regardless of the moral concepts and expectations of his time” and developing a “sovereign and emancipated approach to the media”.

The film’s story apparently stretches from the 1960s to the 1990s and takes place “against a backdrop of breathtaking matches and tournaments, culminating in the world championship titles of 1974 and 1990″. In addition, it should be about the “colorful and fun-loving 60s to 80s [gehen]in which Beckenbauer enjoys life to the full”.

Tim Trageser (52) directs, the screenplay comes from Martin Rauhaus (64). There is no exact start date yet. However, it is known that the film will be broadcast for the first time at the end of 2022.
