The essentials of VR news (Week from January 30 to February 5, 2023): Games, News, Hardware and Good Deals

This week, in standalone, we have the announcement of the continuation of Retropolis first of the name, six games that have just landed on picothe announcement of Steam Next Fest 2023among others.

Peanut Buttonthe first Retropolis studio of the name has just confirmed that its sequel, Retropolis 2: Never Say Goodbye is in development. This new adventure, in the pure style point-and-click (Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle…) will be available on major VR platforms this year.

You will not be required to do the first episodethe game telling us a whole new story. Equipped with extendable arms, the player can collect objects from a distance and thus solve puzzles. The game will also be longer, more beautiful, better animated than in the past. Retropolis 2: Never Say Goodbye will be released on Meta Quest, Pico, PCVR as well as the latest Vive XR Elite.

This week, it’s party time because no less than six games are out, some of which are free. We start with Coat of arms (free-to-play), certainly the most interesting dueling game we have ever tried in virtual reality. We continue with Kung Fu Beat (9.99 €) which turns out to be yet another bad Beat Saber. Same for Power Punch (9.99 €) which attempts to copy existing boxing games without being at the same level. Enhance VR (free) is a Dr. Kawashima-like which is worth a look because it allows you to preserve your mental health by doing daily brain exercises. Mrs. Pirate (free) is a short film that is offered for free and quite well done, we recommend you watch it. And finally, we have Cybrix (€12.99), one Arkanoid in VR which really amazed us, lovers of Racket NXyou can’t miss it.

After a temporary closure, Cradle of Sins reopens the playtesting from the game on February 22bringing back this adventure game MOBA and cooperative on PCVR.

Although Cradle of sins was launched in early access on Steam by offering two different game modes, the MOBA and the cooperative this one was stopped along the way due to server issues and game migration to Unreal Engine V.

This is how the studio U24 introduces us to the game:

Cradle of Sins is a cross-platform PC & VR action-adventure game set in a dark and bizarre world populated by badass creatures. Get ready and invite your friends because these battles for the dominations of the different Architects are endless. And choose carefully which clan you want to serve for an immersive and different competitive experience every time you play.

Cradle of Sins release date has yet to be confirmedbut the studio says an announcement will be made soon. In the meantime, you can request access to the next play test via Steam.

Cyborn released a new update to Hubris for PC VR, adding combat improvements and new enemy variants. Aware of the return of players, this update aims to rebalance the game experience. XR Games specifies that this version will take into account the specificities of the helmet, such as haptics, support for diopters as well as foveal rendering. But that’s not all, it’s also about a new artistic style: the cell shadingnew character models, additional animations, music and lighting, and finally an overhauled progression system and physics of the ragdolls (corpses) more realistic.

Meta will expand the audience of Horizon Worlds by offering the possibility of playing it from their mobile or from a web interface. At the moment this is an alpha test, you will find more information here.

Always at Metaend clap for Crayta, not popular enough to ensure continued following. The developers encourage players to save their works before the Closing scheduled for March 3. If you have been following us for more than a year, we had been able to try Crayta (see article), at the time we were amazed to find that it did everything a Horizon Worlds did not offer: it was beautiful (thank you cloud gaming) and complete. However, this one was not in RV and unknown to the battalion. We would have so much preferred the opposite situation, the abandonment ofHorizon Worlds for the benefit of a portage of Crayta in VR, it’s such a shame!
