The Europeans, a simple springboard? “These are not elections made to weigh in 2027”, judge Sophie Bussière

The spokesperson for Europe Ecology Les Verts, Sophie Bussière, was the guest of Europe 1 morning this Thursday. At the microphone of Lionel Gougelot, she returned to the intention of the Greens not to make common lists with the rest of the Nupes, during the European elections of 2024. “These elections are not made to weigh in 2027”, but have a real meaning, she believes.

The French will have a date with Europe in 2024. Next year, voters will be invited to elect their new representatives to the European Parliament. An important moment for La France Insoumise, which intends to pursue its ambition to designate itself as the first opposition party to the government party. To do this, LFI wants to bring together the Nupes, an alliance bringing together the Insoumis, the Socialists, the Greens and the Communists, on a common list.

Promising elections for the Greens

A request largely rejected by the Socialist Party, but also by Europe Ecology the Greens. It must be said that during the last European elections, the Greens had achieved an honorable score, bringing together nearly 13.5% of the vote in France.

When questioned, the spokeswoman for EELV, Sophie Bussière, judges that the party was very clear from the start on the policy carried out with a view to the European elections: “Marine Tondelier, as soon as she was elected, said it and repeated: there will be no common lists”, she explains at the microphone of Europe 1.

“An important step”

“We are moving forward. We have indeed started to build a great team around Marie Toussaint (head of the EELV list for the next Europeans), who is a woman who has Europe in her guts. And we want to talk about Europe, that is to say not to make this election of 2024, a French intermediate election to prepare for 2027”, adds the ecologist.

But will these divisions around the strategy to hold on the left around the European elections permanently fracture the Nupes? “It is not because we make separate lists for the European elections that it is the end of any coalition or union for 2027 or other elections. (…) But the European elections are not made for weigh in 2027. On the contrary, as ecologists, it is a level that is close to our hearts because many things are played out at the level of Brussels”, such as agricultural policy, or on ecological objectives, she concludes .
