The Fabelmans: Launch

“The Fabelmans” premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2022. The film then hit US theaters on November 11, 2022. In Germany you can see the drama in cinemas from March 9, 2023.

The Fabelmans: Storyline

Sammy Fabelman lives a relatively normal life for the 1950s. Alongside his loud sisters, there is his father Burt, who works as a computer engineer, and his loving mother Mitzi, who is art-loving and an extremely talented pianist. However, because of the children, she never got around to pursuing a career in music. Sammy also seems to have the artistic gene, so he is absolutely thrilled after seeing his first film “The Greatest Show in the World” on a big screen with his parents.

Sammy decides one day he wants to be a film director and begins re-enacting the scene from the film where a train derails and an explosion occurs. While his mother supports him in his endeavors, father Burt doesn’t seem overly enthusiastic about his son’s future plans.

The Fabelmans: Cast

Gabriel LaBelle takes on the lead role of Sammy Fabelman (teenage). Sammy’s mother Mitzi and father Burt are played by four-time Oscar nominee Michelle Williams (“Dawson’s Creek”) and American actor and musician Paul Dano. They are joined by Julia Butters (“American Housewife”) and Keeley Karsten as Sammy’s sisters Reggie and Natalie.

Also starring in the film are Jeannie Berlin as Sammy’s grandma Hadassah Fabelman, Seth Rogen as “Uncle” Bennie Loewy, Oakes Fegley as Chad Thomas, Robin Bartlett (“The Therapist Next Door”) as Tina Schildkraut, Gabriel Bateman (“Mosquito Coast “) as Roger, Nicolas Cantu (“The Walking Dead – World Beyond”) as Hark and David Lync as one of Hollywood’s most successful directors – John Ford.

Three-time Oscar winner Steven Spielberg served as director, screenwriter and producer. Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Kushner is also writing the screenplay alongside Spielberg. The film was also produced by Kristie Macosko Krieger and Tony Kushner, with executive producers Carla Raij and Josh McLaglen. The film’s music was composed by five-time Oscar winner John Williams.
