Indeed, the interpreter of Catherine In Wretched by Claude Lellouche for a time wanted to keep his illness a secret from those around him. In 2019, the actress who performs on stage suffers from discomfort during a performance. Once at the hospital, several malignant tumors were discovered in his colon. Discoveries that Clémentine Célarié does not seem to have taken seriously. “I didn’t really take it as a real thing,” she confides to Audrey Crespo-Mara’s microphone on the set of Seven to eight.

Immediately, the actress decided not to mention her illness to those close to her. A decision made with the aim of protecting them. “I don’t want it to exist in the real world, (…) I don’t want to worry them. It worries the cancer (…), people think you are dead. I was never really aware of being sick”says Clémentine Célarié on the set of TF1. A discretion which does not spare her from the impact of the illness on her body, while the actress quickly finds herself unable to go on stage. “That’s the worst,” believes the one who also hid her illness from her work colleagues.
“You feel like you have a shit in your body and you can’t talk about it, because in my job, if I talked about it, it was fucked, I had 150 tour dates, which was huge and, all the dates (would have been) canceled”, she explains in Sept à Huit. And to add: “Chemo really makes you feel like you’re dying, even though you’re rebuilding yourself, healing yourself.”

“I will fight this cancer all my life”now believes Clémentine Célarié before specifying: “Everything has to be rekindled, everything that a woman makes of us. There is a little fragility that remains, which makes us worry more perhaps, but we rejoice more, everything is more vibrant.” After undergoing treatment, he has since returned to the stage. “Theatre is a great enterprise against illness and for healing”she adds.
