PARIS (Reuters) – The fire which broke out on Monday in Saumos, in the Médoc, in Gironde, was still active in the middle of the day on Tuesday and has already burned 1,800 hectares, announced the prefecture of the department on Twitter.

Human and material resources were reinforced in the morning to fight the fire and 700 firefighters are now mobilized on the ground, as well as three Canadair, two Dash, three water bomber helicopters as well as a Beech (command aircraft, of investigation and liaison-NDLR), specifies the prefecture.

The Gironde has already been confronted with two extraordinary fires in July (in Landiras, in the south of the department and in La Teste-de-Buch, near Arcachon), with a resumption of fire near Landiras in August, which burned nearly 25,000 hectares in total.
