After using a very awkward formula when referring to the American population of Hispanic origin, Jill Biden apologized on Tuesday July 12 through her spokesperson.
A speech that made people cringe. Monday, July 11, while she was traveling to Texas to mobilize the Hispanic electorate in favor of the Democratic Party, Jill Biden gave an awkward speech. The First Lady of the United States wanted to brag about the “diversity” of the Hispanic American populationensuring that she was “as different as the bodegas of the Bronx, as beautiful as the flowers of Miami, as unique as breakfast tacos in San Antonio“cited The Parisian. However, the comparison with tacos, a typical dish of Mexican cuisine based on corn tortillas, is very badly gone to the Hispanic community.
The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), based in Washington, was quick to rebel against this speech. “Using breakfast tacos to try to demonstrate the uniqueness of Latinos in San Antonio demonstrates a lack of cultural knowledge and sensitivity to the diversity of Latinos in the region“blasted the organization in a statement posted on Twitterbefore specifying: “We are not tacos (…). Don’t reduce us to stereotypes.” After this outcry, the First Lady had no choice but to apologize. “The First Lady apologizes that his words conveyed anything other than admiration and pure love for the Latin American community”indeed wrote the spokesperson for Jill Biden, Michael LaRosa, on Twitter, Tuesday, July 12.
