“The first time I read the script, I didn’t understand everything”: Chris Evans did not immediately understand the issues of this famous sci-fi film

Recently interviewed by GQ, the former interpreter of Captain America notably returned to his role in the science fiction film “Snowpiercer”. A futuristic work that he admits he did not fully grasp from the start.

Even if he is best remembered for his unforgettable interpretation of Captain America in numerous Marvel Cinematic Universe feature films, actor Chris Evans was not content with playing the shield bearer in the Avengers, far from it!

On the science fiction side, in addition to the more confidential Sunshine by Danny Boyle (which he considers one of his best films), Evans also played the main role in Snowpiercer, Le Transperceneige. Inspired by a French comic strip and directed by the famous Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho, also known for his illustrious Parasite, this little sci-fi classic, later adapted into a TV series, takes place in a world completely covered in ice, in 2031.

In this post-apocalyptic universe, a train populated by the last survivors of humanity is condemned to circle the Earth without ever stopping. A true society in its own right, this convoy reserves the leading cars for the aristocrats, who never lack anything, and the last cars for the working classes, who live in deplorable conditions.

Inventive and original, but atypical and sometimes even disconcerting, the plot of this feature film surprised Chris Evans himself, who played one of the proletarians on the train seeking to lead a revolt.

The pact

“The first time I read the script, I didn’t understand everything”he recently confided to the microphone of GQexplaining that for all films like Snowpiercer that develop a new environment, you have to make the effort to adhere to the concept.

“In a way, you have to decide which part of your brain you want to spend time on (…). Are you going to explore a more intimate path and focus mainly on the character? Or are you going to focus on how this company was able to grow in this location? It’s a challenge, but you just have to watch Tilda Swinton in the film, watch the way she approaches this extraordinary character.”

In Snowpiercer, Tilda Swinton, unrecognizable, plays the evil Councilor Mason, responsible for stemming the caboose revolt.
