When it comes to TV technology, we often think of clearer pictures and larger screens. However, a startup called Displace is pushing the boundaries of innovation in a different direction. It introduced revolutionary security features for its 100% wireless TV.
During CES 2023, Displace unveiled a prototype of its wireless television. What distinguished him was its unique ability to attach securely to any surface, without the need for bulky brackets or drillinge. To do this, Displace uses its proprietary active loop vacuum technology. With this, Displace TVs aim to solve common problems with traditional flat panel TVs, such as mounting difficulties, tangled wires and complex remote controls.
In addition to simplifying installation, Displace TVs minimize the need for remote controls. They rely primarily on natural hand gestures, as well as touch and voice commands, to navigate and control content. They also incorporate facial recognition and computer vision technology, which allows the TV to adapt its content when the user changes rooms. However, these are not the most impressive features of the device.
The wireless TV can slide smoothly onto your wall
Recently, Displace revealed new safety features on video to provide a backup solution in the event of a failure of its unique attachment system. These include advanced algorithms for wall detection, four rapid adhesives for stability and a proprietary auto-descending landing gear system.
To put it simply, the sensors integrated into the Displace TV constantly monitor different factors. These include the battery level, the pressure in the suction system, the condition of the wall surface and the integrity of the pump. If the seal of the vacuum system is threatened or the integrity of the wall is compromised, the TV instantly deploys four adhesives to ensure its stability.
These adhesives then serve as anchor points while the television begins a slow descent on the wall from a height of up to 3 meters. A reusable foam deploys at the bottom to protect the TV screen, and this is automatically placed horizontally on the ground to prevent it from breaking.
During this process, Displace TV triggers a built-in alarm and flashing lights to keep animals away from the area. Although Displace calls these scenarios “edge cases,” the new security features aim to providing complete peace of mind to users who mount the TV on the wall without the need for traditional screws and nails. What prices for Displace wireless TV?
To make Displace TV even more accessible, reservations are now available on their website. These reservations require a fully refundable deposit, with shipments expected to begin in the middle of the second quarter of 2024. Pricing options include:
- 1 pack (1 DisplaceTV + 1 basic control unit): $4,499
- 2-pack (2 DisplaceTV + 2 base control units): $8,099
- 4-pack (4 DisplaceTV + 4 base control units): $13,499
Each Displace TV includes a battery charger with four replaceable batteries. The price of additional batteries remains to be determined. Each base unit has an HDMI 2.1 input, with the ability to combine multiple base units for additional inputs. Finally, note that for gamers, Displace is actively working on achieving a higher refresh rate, although TVs currently support 60 frames per second.
