Bruno Le Maire was the guest of Europe 1 this Thursday morning. At the microphone of Sonia Mabrouk, the Minister of Economy and Finance assured that the aid of 18 centimes per liter of fuel would be “gradually withdrawn by the end of the year” and that “the fuel allowance for workers” would be put in place on 1 October.

In force since April 1 and supposed to end on July 31, the discount of 15 to 18 centimes per liter of fuel, granted in all service stations will be maintained in August but will be “gradually withdrawn by the end of the year”, said Bruno Le Maire this Thursday morning on Europe 1. “We are going to replace the 18 cents which will be reduced to 16, 12, 10, we will do it very gradually but at the end of the year it will not there will be more fuel discounts, and from October 1, in any case this is the proposal we are making, we are implementing this fuel allowance for workers”.

New targeted aid

“You had a massive general aid of 0.18 euros per liter. It will be gradually withdrawn by the end of the year to be replaced by a much more targeted aid, which will cost around 2 billion euros for those who really need it, that is to say those who take their car to go to work”, announced the Minister of Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty.

“And 0.18 euros, that costs 800 million euros a month. Aid targeted at workers is two billion euros for the whole year. So you see, it’s not at all comparable. This is proof that we do not want anything at all. Our public finances do not allow us to do so”.

Funding through “windfall tax revenue”

How does the government intend to finance this new aid without raising taxes? “On the financing of this package of around twenty billion euros, it is the exceptional tax revenues that we have in 2022 and it is very important to understand it (which will make it possible to finance this aid). say what? It simply means that before redistributing wealth, it must be created. This is exactly what we are doing. We have very good corporate tax revenues, “explains Bruno Le Maire.

According to the Minister of the Economy, “our businesses are doing well”.
