The future electric Jeep with XXL autonomy goes big to compete with the electric Range Rover

After the small Avenger, Jeep is preparing to release a new electric car: the Wagoneer S. A large SUV, designed for the United States but which will arrive in Europe, with obviously very high performance and autonomy.

The automotive market is full of specificities, but there is one area where everyone is converging: the electrification of cars. No jealousy, everyone is developing electric cars, Ferrari included; Jeep, known for its large 4x4s, is no exception.

After launching a 100% electric version of its little Avenger, which also exists in a thermal version, the American brand is taking a step forward and will market its first model solely dedicated to electricity: the Wagoneer S. A press release from the brand comes to give us some information about it.

Top-notch performance

Few figures are presented, but they deserve our attention: Jeep announces a power of 600 hp and a 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.5 seconds. Obviously, four-wheel drive will be there, thanks to two electric motors – Jeep calls it “4xe”.

If no mention of the size of the batteries or the autonomy has emerged, we know that this Wagoneer S will be based on the STLA Large platform of the Stellantis group (to which Jeep belongs, and which will be used by the largest models of the group, like the Dodge Charger or the next SUVs from Alfa Romeo and Maserati). A platform that can accommodate gigantic batteries, whose capacity can vary between 101 and 118 kWh. Target autonomy? 800 km.

In 2024 for the United States, later for Europe

The thermal Wagoneers top the Jeep range. This electric Wagoneer S will therefore do the same, with a very high-end positioning. The style bears witness to this, including a reinterpretation of the brand’s famous seven-slot grille in an illuminated version – a bit like the Audi Q8 e-tron.

Jeep announces that its Wagoneer S will arrive in the United States in fall 2024, “then in major markets around the world”. Europe should therefore be entitled to it in 2025, at prices which should be close to (or even significantly exceed) 100,000 euros. This large SUV will find some serious competitors in its path, such as the electric Range Rover, the Volvo EX90 or the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV.
