The future electric Renault 5 at 100 euros per month? A possibility, with social leasing

With the social leasing that the government is preparing, the electric Renault 5 could be within reach of all budgets. It is a question of a monthly payment of 100 euros per month.

A car with an electric motor, rather affordable and assembled in France: the future electric Renault 5 has the ideal profile to integrate the leasing system at 100 euros per month (or social leasing), which the government has been working on for several months now. In an interview with France InfoClément Beaune, the Minister Delegate in charge of Transport, has moreover confirmed half-word that this highly anticipated vehicle could be retained by the state.

The potentially eligible Renault Zoé, not the Spring

The Zoe also seems to have the qualities required to be part of the device. When his case was cited by the journalist, Clément Beaune rather confirmed this hypothesis, in a response however rather evasive. However, as we explained to you in a previous article, there could be a big price difference between the two electric city cars at Losange.

Thanks to a lower capacity battery, and therefore less expensive, the electric R5 could, in fact, in its entry-level version, cost much less than the Zoé. Its price would start at around 25,000 euro bonus not deducted, a figure to be put into perspective with the 35,100 euros claimed by the least expensive Zoé.

The only models mentioned during the interview are Renaults, but it should obviously not be inferred that the government reserves social leasing for cars marked with a Diamond. The identity of the brand will normally have no impact, even if one can think that the state will more readily retain French cars.

To have a chance of integrating this future device, a model must be electric, sold at a reasonable price… and manufactured in Europe. This last criterion could also have a role in the allocation of the future bonus in a short time. One day perhaps, he will encourage the Renault group to relocate Dacia Spring production, which is currently being done in China. A scenario that nevertheless seems hypothetical for the moment, as we explained to you recently.

Electric car at 100 euros: still a little patience

Mentioned during the presidential campaign by Emmanuel Macron, social leasing is not quite ready yet. According to Clément Beaune, the first beneficiaries of the measure will be able to reserve their vehicle at “next fall, probably in November”. Deliveries will begin “from next year”.

The formula will be deployed by existing leasing companies and reserved for low-income families. The government wants to minimize the initial contribution traditionally required for the rental of a vehicle, or even eliminate it entirely. But this may be difficult on an electric Renault 5 given its selling price.
