Two years after the Fairphone 4, soon a successor to the eco-responsible smartphone
On June 20, we were able to get our hands on the first images of the fifth generation Fairphone. If the latter should not materialize many upheavals in terms of design (apart from the disappearance of the notch), it was still the opportunity to discover that the Dutch company was finally going to give some color to its eco-responsible smartphones. Because yes, this is Fairphone’s premise: to offer durable and environmentally friendly devices.
As a reminder, it is only since last March that the Fairphone 2, which was marketed in 2015, no longer benefits from security updates. Yes, the smartphone will indeed have been able to enjoy software support for more than 7 years. What already give us great hopes for the longevity of the Fairphone 5, which is normally expected for this year.
Fairphone 5: what will be hiding under the hood?
In the continuity of the leaks of last month, now the Fairphone 5 has just pointed the tip of its nose at Geekbenchas the site tells us GSMArena. This allows us to learn more about the characteristics of this new Fairphone. The latter should logically be powered by the Snapdragon 782G SoC (codename lahaina) and would ship 8 GB of RAM, although it could be available in other memory configurations like its predecessor. As a reminder, it was equipped with the Snapdragon 765. Finally, note that the Fairphone 5 will be delivered directly with Android 13.
The discovery of these recent clues (if they are real) therefore strongly suggests that the Fairphone 5 should not take too long before being officially revealed. But let Fairphone 4 owners be reassured, the company has already announced that the device, which will be released in September 2021, will benefit from long-term software support.
