the future Q8 e-tron electric SUV is showing off on the road before its official release

Three years after its launch, the Audi e-tron will offer many changes. On the program, increased autonomy and a new name.

The current Audi e-tron has been in the lineup for a while now, as it was launched in 2019, a few months after its presentation in 2018 in San Francisco. The brand’s first 100% electric model, which will only offer this engine from 2033, the SUV is in the process of being restyled.

A new name

At the beginning of the year, Audi revealed to us some images of its star model, still heavily camouflaged while in the middle of a test session on the snow. A few months later, the German firm returns to tell us about its electric SUV and then gratifies us with new images, showing it still well hidden, while participating in the E-Cannonball in Hamburg, Germany.

As specified in the manufacturer’s press release, it is currently only a prototype, which should therefore differ from the production version. However, we already notice some small discreet changes at the level of the grille as well as the rear partand in particular on the shield.

As the site says Clean Automotive, both versions, standard and Sportback will be affected by this restyling, which should logically also bring its share of new features in the driving position. But for now, nothing has yet been confirmed by the brand. According to the sounds of corridors, this new version should also change its name, to bear the name Q8 e-tron. Thus, it will aim to replace the outgoing e-tron, as well as the thermal Audi Q8, launched in 2018. Initially, it was expected that this new name would only arrive on the next generation of the electric SUV.

Increased autonomy

For now, we can’t really say that Audi is particularly vocal about its electric SUV, while the Ingolstadt firm specifies in its press release that it ” still keeps some of his secrets to himself“. Nevertheless, everything suggests that some improvements have also been made to the technical sheet of this e-tron, whose autonomy could be increased.

As a reminder, this is displayed at 436 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle in its e-tron 55 quattro version. The SUV only had around 300 kilometers when it was launched three years ago. A few technology updates could also be expected, as Audi recently partnered with 4.Screen to bring new features to its vehicles.

For now, Audi has not yet announced a presentation date for this new restyled e-tron, while the brand was not present at the Paris Motor Show which closed its doors yesterday. It could then be that the SUV takes its first steps in front of the public at the Los Angeles show next November. In parallel, the brand is also working on the development of a Q6 e-tron, which should be launched next year.
