DxOMark put the Galaxy S23 Ultra to the test and draws more or less the same conclusions as us: it has a high-end screen, and greatly improves the performance of its predecessor. If now, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is the new boss of Android smartphones, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are still ahead of it on certain points.

Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra stands out with an exceptionally high-quality screen. That doesn’t make it the best on the market, though. DxOMark ranks it third (with a score of 148) behind the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, second and first, respectively, with 149 points. Of the six criteria evaluated, the S23 Ultra only stands out from its competitors under iOS in the video part, with a score of 162, against 151 for the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The testers say: Galaxy S23 Ultra and S22 Ultra continue to lead in terms of user experience for video”.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra is a performance behemoth, but it’s not the best everywhere

The screen is certainly an essential criterion of choice when buying a smartphone. But, still according to DxOMark, the Galaxy S23 Ultra does not fare well in other important areas. The Huawei Mate 50 Pro remains the king of photography. The high-end camera from the Chinese manufacturer scores 150 points, while that of the Galaxy S23 Ultra scores 140, which places it 10th. On the photo part, the iPhone 14 Pro Max ends up at the foot of the podium, with 146 points.

As for sound reproduction, neither the Galaxy S23 Ultra nor the top of the range from Apple stand out of the lot. Samsung’s Tech Showcase speakers score just 139 points, putting it in 17th place, while the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max picks up three more points, and ranks 11th.
