THE Galaxy S24 Ultra hasn’t been released yet, but its features are already getting people talking. Particularly those relating to durability and reparability.

If there is one area in which smartphone manufacturers have not made immense progress in recent years, it is that of repairability. As our smartphones have become more and more complex and more and more powerful, they have also become more and more difficult to repair. Seeing Samsung make some efforts from this point of view with its S24 is therefore appreciable.

Relatively modular components

In a video posted on January 25, the PBKreviews channel carried out a proper disassembly of the phone and surprise, the latter is not that complicated to examine in the event of a problem. The phone even obtains the very respectable score of 9/10 according to the PBKreviews scale. Once the back has been dismantled using a heat gun, all you need is the right tools and a little patience to replace the different components of the phone.

Burdened with cables in every direction, the S24 Ultra is not (too) complicated to repair. Good news, the USB-C charging port is not soldered to the motherboard and should therefore be able to be replaced without costing an arm and a leg. The photo modules are not either, which should make changing them easier. The battery can also be removed with a simple adhesive strip that allows for leverage.

Unfortunately, the screen is so fiercely attached to the phone’s skeleton that it’s almost impossible to remove it without damaging it. Regrettable when we know that changing the screen is one of the most frequently carried out repairs on a smartphone. However, this does not prevent the phone from obtaining a score of 8.5/10 on the French repairability index, or 0.3 points more than its predecessor.

A screen that scratches less

The S24 Ultra’s screen is also more scratch-resistant than that of its predecessors. This improvement is due to the use of technology nicknamed Gorilla Glass Armor. According to tests carried out by PBKreviews, the S24’s display only picks up scratches at level 8 on the Mohs scale (which measures the hardness of materials). Enough to be reassured about the lifespan of the screen. Be careful, though, we are talking about scratches and not falls. If your S24 Ultra crashes against the asphalt, there is always a chance that the screen will be damaged.

Nevertheless, it is appreciable to see that Samsung has taken care of the interior and exterior of its phone to make it a more repairable mobile. A position that goes well with the manufacturer’s commitment to providing 7 years of software updates.
