Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5 could adopt a whole new style of hinge. The latter would allow the manufacturer to finally eliminate the crease on the screen while maintaining its water resistance. The terminal should be presented during the summer of 2023.
Samsung has made very few changes to the design of its Galaxy Z Fold since the second iteration in 2020, content to improve a well-established formula in small touches. So the hinge remained the same, but that could change with the Galaxy Z Fold 5.
Famous leaker Ice Universe claims that Samsung should modify the hinge for its next phone. It would pass to a “droplet” hinge (droplet). Less imposing, this type of hinge is used by other manufacturers such as Oppo or Xiaomi.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 would have a new hinge
The Galaxy Z Fold’s hinge is chunky, but is designed that way to provide added strength as well as water and dust resistance. However, this method has two major drawbacks. The first is that a day appears when the phone is closed, the two parts do not stick together perfectly. The second is the appearance a nasty crease in the center of the screen.

Although this crease has become more discreet over the years (and is quickly forgotten in use), it is still present and may deter some buyers. With the new hinge, which Samsung would internally call “dumbbell”, the crease would once again be reduced. More so, the space on the closed screen would disappear. If Samsung did not opt for this method from the start, it was to offer a water-resistant phone. With this dumbbell hinge, the builder would be able to keep this quality.
If the Galaxy Z Fold 4 was a minor evolution of the Z Fold 3, itself a small improvement of the Z Fold 2, the Z Fold 5 could well surprise with a new design. We also hope for a thinner terminal, like what the competition does. The smartphone should be presented during the month of August alongside the new Z Flip if the brand respects its tradition.
