During 2021, spending on PC gaming hardware and accessories increased by 25%, according to the NPD group.

The shortage of processors, graphics cards and other components ultimately did not have such an impact on consumer spending.

More gear and more playing time

The thousands of euros not spent on graphics cards finally seem to have been used differently by gamers around the world. According to the latest report from the NPD group, total spending on computers, components as well as accessories (keyboards, mice, headsets, etc.) increased by 25% in 2021, compared to the year 2020. The result, he , is much lower than in 2020 (62% increase compared to 2019), but it is difficult to take into account a year of confinements when one wishes to know the stability of a market.

This 25% increase concerns three product categories in particular: desktop computers (38% increase), laptops (29%) and microphones for PCs (25%). Note that these expenses are accompanied by an increase in the number of hours spent playing: in 2021, players spent an average of 7.7 hours per week with a controller or mouse in hand, compared to 6.7 hours in 2020 .
