An unmistakable sign: the release of a possible GeForce RTX 4060 is really not for now.

Last month, NVIDIA formalized the release of a new version of its GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. This second version focuses on the memory subsystem by integrating GDDR6X.

A memory boost

Remember that, available since 1er December 2020, the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti had been a way for NVIDIA to popularize the Ampere architecture by making the entry ticket significantly more accessible.

At the time, for obvious cost reasons, NVIDIA opted for video memory in GDDR6 at 14 Gbps. This technique had already been used a month earlier with the release of the GeForce RTX 3070.

Compared to the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 models, the two more accessible graphics cards had to do with a significantly lower bandwidth: “only” 448 GB / s when the RTX 3080 reaches 760 GB / s.

No impact on the selling price

While the question of a GeForce RTX 4060 is already agitating the gaming community, it is therefore this RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X that is making the headlines. If NVIDIA did not talk much about it in the end, the Chinese media nevertheless believe that the manufacturer would like to generalize the card.

NVIDIA would consider replacing the RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6 model purely and simply with this version in GDDR6X. It keeps the same amount of video memory, but the switch to GDDR6X makes it possible to have 19 Gbps chips for a boosted bandwidth of 608 GB/s.

It is difficult to know the impact of such a change on the performance of the card, but it is not really a problem since the Chinese media insist on an interesting point: the price of this RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X would be identical to the GDDR6 version, 2,999 yuan (about 410 euros).

Finally, if NVIDIA renews the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti in this way, it is a safe bet that it does not have the idea of releasing an RTX 4060 for many more months. Recall that a few days ago, rumors evoked an exit, at best, in June 2023.
