This new feature would allow you to quickly respond to a message without having to take your smartphone out of your pocket.

If we spend hours on our phone, there are countless situations where our hands are busy.

Responding to messages in hands-free mode is not so easy on Android

While you’re working out or jogging, or preparing dinner, your smartphone is waiting quietly in your pocket or on the next table.

If you have an Android smartphone, it is therefore impossible to respond to an urgent message quickly, without having to put your hands on your phone. To reply to a friend or relative when it’s urgent, you must interrupt your activity and ask Google Assistant to type a message by dictating it. The operation is not very long, but there is necessarily a simpler and more transparent way to achieve it.

Google thinks so too and is preparing an update to Google Assistant that goes in this direction.

A new option for Google Assistant, which could be reserved for Pixel 8

According to Mishaal Rahman, a researcher very familiar with the latest Android developments, traces of code in the latest beta versions of Android 14 suggest that Google Assistant will soon welcome a new mode that will allow you to respond directly to its messages and requests. notices.

The latter will be similar to Android Auto, or what Apple offers with Siri, except that the assistant will not tell you that you can reply to a message. The microphone will remain open for a few seconds so that you can interact with the famous “Hey Google” command, then all you have to do is say “Reply” and dictate your message so that it is sent directly in hands-free mode. .

This very practical feature could initially be reserved for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. These Google-designed smartphones are the perfect showcase for new Android features, and the search engine might be tempted to use this new mode as a selling point.

However, the thing does not seem to be understood, and Mishaal Rahman is reserved on the issue. It could also be that Google offers it to all owners of Pixel smartphones through a Feature Drop update. As a reminder, the latter regularly bring new software to Pixel smartphones over their life cycle, without waiting for an Android update.

We will now have to wait a few weeks to learn more about it. Google has not confirmed a date for the presentation of its next Pixel 8, but the launches usually take place between the very end of September and mid-October each year.
