The site experts iFixit wanted to know more about the design of the very first connected watch from Google.

It’s been a few days since the Google Pixel Watch arrived on the wrists of its first users.

Google’s first smartwatch isn’t a resistance model

The design of the connected watch had us somewhat worried. Indeed, the Google Pixel Watch did not seem to be the most solid connected watch of the moment: a journalist from The Verge had shared a photo of his device with a cracked screen, only a few days after receiving it.

Today is the turn ofiFixit to receive its copy and as after each product release, the Pixel Watch passed through the expert hands of the teams of the specialized site and was methodically dismantled to reveal its innards, as well as the little manufacturing secrets.

With its multiple parts, disassembling the Pixel Watch is no picnic

The back of the watch is glued to the rest of the device, but detachable to access the components integrated into the case of the connected watch. Good news: the adhesive used leaves no residue once removed, which allows the watch to be closed again without going through a major cleaning.

Once the latter is removed, we see that Google has not sought to take care of the assembly of the different parts. The search engine giant used many screws and small parts, rather than a few easily detachable blocks, making disassembly difficult, according to the observations ofiFixit. The Pixel Watch could pose some problems for repairers who will want to replace a part in the event of a breakdown, but all the sensors, such as the heart rate monitor, are accessible.

Another problem identified: the crown on the left side of the watch, which allows you to navigate through the interfaces, as well as the buttons are attached to the case. If by misfortune one of these keys were to give up the ghost, you will have to replace your watch once the guarantee has expired.

iFixit has yet to give the Pixel Watch a repairability rating, but its first review remains very mixed. Google has not made it easy for the support teams, and you will have to take great care of your connected watch at the risk of having to call on the company’s services for a repair.
