Food voucher, abolition of the fee or even price shield on electricity and gas: several avenues are being considered to deal with rising prices.
The government is well aware of the sensitivity of the French to price increases and is preparing a new set of measures to try to cushion the shock. Announced a time before the legislative elections, the bills will finally be presented to the Council of Ministers at the end of June in the wake of the elections. Formally, Parliament will indeed examine two texts, an amending budget for 2022 and an accompanying law.
In the campaign, the executive has already communicated widely on the content of the texts, which to put it simply pick up the essentials of Emmanuel Macron’s electoral promises. An explanatory exercise all the more necessary as the government wants to give arguments to its candidates on the ground to defuse the attacks on the purchasing power of the New People’s Ecological and Social Union (Nupes) of Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
