While Grand Theft Auto 5 is set to get a next-gen update in March, new rumors seem to point to a delay due to development issues.
Rockstar Games announced their “Expanded and Improved” edition of Grand Theft Auto 5 in June 2020. However, the road to a release date hasn’t been smooth sailing.
Originally slated for November 2021, the next-gen iteration of Rockstar’s record-breaking title could face further delays from the new release date that was set in March.
GTA 5 next-gen has a high chance of being delayed
Originally reported by dataminer Matheusbr9895, the “Extended and Enhanced” edition of GTA 5 may be delayed to April/May due to development issues.
According to ResetEra user nolifebr, the “original blueprint” for GTA 5 was to update “latest-gen versions with fixes”.
“Development was complicated for Rockstar Games, as their efforts were focused on preparing amazing things for GTA Online.
With the growth and evolution of GTA Online, they need to provide an engine that can withstand the precision and constant growth of players to come.” he declares regarding the next-gen necessities of GTA 5.

Details are still limited on what exactly the “Extended and Improved” edition promises, aside from fidelity and performance improvements.
So pending its eventual release, Rockstar Games recently added significant new story content to GTA Online in the form of “The Contract” DLC.
