  • The Hulu series The Handmaid’s Tale is set to return for a fifth season, with new episodes potentially due out in 2022.
  • In Germany, Magenta TV and RTL Passion are showing the adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s novel “The Handmaid’s Report”.
  • Now actress Alexis Bledel is shocking fans with her sudden departure from the series.

The Hulu series “The Handmaid’s Tale” is supposed to return with Season 5 in 2022 and leading actress Elisabeth Moss is already promising the “wildest” season yet. But now the abrupt departure of actress Alexis Bledel overshadows the joy of the upcoming sequel.

The Desglen/Emily actress surprisingly announced in an interview with the US magazine Entertainment Weekly that she was leaving the successful dystopian series. The only reason she gave was that she “feels [hatte]that [sie] must now step down from The Handmaid’s Tale”.

“After much deliberation, I felt that I had to step down from The Handmaid’s Tale now. My eternal thanks go to Bruce Miller (Showrunner) for writing such true and resonant scenes for Emily and Hulu, MGM, the cast and the crew for their support.”

Alexis Bledel

Bledel has been an integral part of the popular series since its first season, earning critical acclaim and multiple Emmy nominations for her portrayal of the ailing Emily Malek. Most recently, she was part of the group that lured Commander Waterford into the DMZ between Gilead and Canada. Together with June she was finally able to quench her thirst for revenge.

Even though June’s story is ultimately the focus of the series, Bledel’s character Emily regained importance through the season 4 finale. So now in the new season an explanation is needed for her sudden absence.
