The inclusion of abortion in the Constitution, a message sent to “all women in the world”

France thus becomes the first country in the world to formally include abortion in its Constitution.

This election is the culmination of an eighteen-month parliamentary process during which many elected officials, relays of feminist associations, have redoubled their commitment to defend the inclusion in the Basic Law of the freedom of women to dispose of their body. And for the first time in history, a woman, in this case the President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, chaired a meeting of the Congress, moreover for a constitutional revision taking place almost fifty after the vote of the Veil law, which at the time legalized the use of abortion.
