Never seen ! Available on Disney+ since January 11, 2023, “Welcome to Chippendales” is a mind-blowing dive into the beginnings of the franchise of clubs reserved for women, offering strip shows this time performed by men.

Exit magic mike,Welcome to Chippendales speak chippendales, the caricature less, a good dose of true history and more. Indeed, the series, available on Disney + since January 11, 2023, retraces the real journey of Steve Banerjee,an indian entrepreneurco-founder of Chippendales show franchise male striptease to world fame. Indeed, at the end of the 1970s this Indian immigrant realized his american dream of a special kind by transforming a failing bar in Los Angeles into a cultural phenomenon. But success has a price…

Throughout the eight episodes ofWelcome to Chippendales, the personality of Steve Banerjee is gradually taking shape before the eyes of viewers. Result: the portrait ofa power-hungry manwith an oversized ego and moreover paranoid. Behind his businessman’s smile, Steve Banerjee indeed hides the soul of a criminal who, from the 1980s to the 1990s, hired people to intimidate the competition, but also contract killers to eliminate his rivals. A role as terrible as it is ambitious that actor Kumail Nanjiani rightly carried, notably seen in the comedySilicon Valley. At his side, Murray Bartlett, Annaleigh Ashford, Robin de Jesús or Nicola Peltz.

Welcome to Chippendales is “the dark side of the American dream”

In an interview with Première, Kumail Nanjiani delivered on his role in Welcome to Chippendales: “As a little boy, growing up in Pakistan, I didn’t particularly dream of playing the founder of the Chippendales! (laughs) What I actually liked was the possibility of playing such a dark character. It’s not often that I’m offered such a dramatic role. I’m more of a comedy actor usually. So I wanted to take up this challenge, to play a being who had done monstrous things, while making him human.” And to continue, on the “raw” side of this story: “The series talks a lot about what the American dream actually is. We’re busting that myth that anyone can make it in America with a little elbow grease. In truth, it also depends a lot on your accent, your name, the origin of your parents… Not everyone starts on an equal footing! And then there is also this idea that we always need more. It really is the dark side of the American dream.
