In an interview with Première, Kumail Nanjiani delivered on his role in Welcome to Chippendales: “As a little boy, growing up in Pakistan, I didn’t particularly dream of playing the founder of the Chippendales! (laughs) What I actually liked was the possibility of playing such a dark character. It’s not often that I’m offered such a dramatic role. I’m more of a comedy actor usually. So I wanted to take up this challenge, to play a being who had done monstrous things, while making him human.” And to continue, on the “raw” side of this story: “The series talks a lot about what the American dream actually is. We’re busting that myth that anyone can make it in America with a little elbow grease. In truth, it also depends a lot on your accent, your name, the origin of your parents… Not everyone starts on an equal footing! And then there is also this idea that we always need more. It really is the dark side of the American dream.”
