OnePlus is preparing to launch a brand new high-end smartphone on the market, and with it, a new screen technology that will allow it to better withstand the rain, thanks to better protection against liquids.
If OnePlus still hasn’t fully unveiled its new smartphone, the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro, the Chinese manufacturer has started to unveil some of its features just a few days before its launch. Among these, we already know that the smartphone will be equipped with an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, 24 GB of RAM, as well as one of the largest vibration motors on the market.
At the front, we will find especially a 6.74-inch 1.5K 120Hz OLED display with HDR10+ support and a pixel density of 450 ppi. The latter would be signed BOE, and would use its new Q9+ material, which promises to carry the peak brightness at 1,600 nits and deliver an “optimized experience” in terms of color, clarity and vibrancy. However, this is not the only particularity of this screen.

The OnePlus Ace 2 Pro screen is better protected against liquids
OnePlus China President Li Jie Louis also showed off groundbreaking “Rain Touch Control” technology on the Ace 2 Pro. This is supposed to allow normal on-screen responses with full accuracy, even in “very difficult” wet weather test conditions.
In a video shared by the manufacturer, the smartphone is seen resting on a stand alongside an Apple iPhone 14 Pro. The latter find themselves under a real downpour, which simulates complicated weather conditions.
Whether it’s when unlocking the smartphone or browsing the interface, answering a phone call or even manipulating photos in the gallery, the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro is doing wonderfully. For its part, the iPhone 14 Pro fails to be unlocked on the first try, and we also notice that water alters the behavior of the touch screenwhich does not respond properly to user gestures.
If the IP68 certification guarantees the iPhone to be resistant to immersion, Apple does not set up no similar protection to protect its screen against “ghost” gestures created by water drops. OnePlus therefore takes the lead in this area, and it now remains to be seen whether this technology will also be adopted by other manufacturers in the future.
