The iPhone 15 Pro Max is more durable than the Galaxy S23 Ultra according to this test


The YouTube channel PhoneBuff subjected the iPhone 15 Pro Max to a series of tests to measure its battery life. Facing it, Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra. Apple wins, but not by much.

Let’s say you got your hands on an iPhone 15 Pro Max. Let’s also assume that you’re very lucky and it doesn’t have overheating issues, crackling speakers, or very slow Wi-Fi. In this case, you can take full advantage of it, and for as long as possible. But does Apple’s high-end smartphone hold up in terms of battery life? To find out, the teams of the PhoneBuff YouTube channel put it in competition with the Galaxy S23 Ultra of Samsung.

The protocol is as follows: the screens of the two devices are calibrated to 200 nits and auto-brightness adjustment is disabled. The speakers deliver the same number of decibels, the mobiles are at the same distance from a relay antenna and the temperature of the room is controlled. The iPhone and Galaxy then suffer testing performed by robots. This allows every action to be performed at exactly the same time and at the same speed on both smartphones.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max lasts longer than the Galaxy S23 Ultra, but not by much

Phone calls, chatting via instant messaging, watching videos, surfing the web, playing video games, listening to music, GPS navigation, recording a video… All common uses are covered. If sometimes the iPhone 15 seems to drain more quickly than the S23 Ultra, it is ultimately the Apple model that wins the battle. It goes from 100 to 0% battery in 27h44while the Samsung model gave up the ghost in 27:06.

On paper, the difference is small, but we must not forget one important detail: the iPhone 15 Pro Max battery has a lower capacity, 4441 mAh against 5000 mAh. Its optimization therefore seems superior. To counterbalance this point, remember that Apple’s phone benefits from the A17 Pro chip engraved 3nm.
