Ethereum converted – The lawyer Roger Ver, nicknamed the Bitcoin Jesus due to his early advocacy for Bitcoin, made a startling statement recently: Ethereum, not Bitcoin, will be the primary driver of global cryptocurrency adoption. This position, which may seem bold for the maximalist Bitcoin, is based on the rise of blockchains, compatible EVMs, and the evolution of Layers 2.
For Ethereum, Roger Ver says Amen!
It is therefore in a recent podcast entitled “Show me The Crypto” that Roger Ver, founder of Bitcoin. com, a bitcoin holder since 2011 and a strong supporter of bitcoin adoption, explained that Ethereum is said to have surpassed bitcoin in terms of global adoption, although its market capitalization remains lower than that of the king of cryptocurrencies.
“Even though Ethereum does not have the largest market capitalization compared to Bitcoin, I think Ethereum is the leader in terms of global adoption.”

Layers 2, the road to adoption for the Jesus of Bitcoin
Roger Ver also welcomes advances in EVM-enabled blockchains and so-called Layers 2 scaling solutions, which help offload the mainnet. Roger Ver also recalls the origins of ethereum, which date back to a “civil war” within the Bitcoin community. Disagreements over the use of smart contracts ultimately led Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, to create his own blockchain.
Facing progress of Layers 2 on Ethereum and the progress of decentralization, Roger Ver does not take kindly to the recent debate around Ledger, calling the Recover service “disappointing” and explaining that crypto players are tackling the wrong problem. Indeed, the Ethereum evangelist would rather focus on full asset control.
While Genesis demands millions of dollars which he is not inclined to give back, Roger Ver continues to punctuate the life of the ecosystem with his interventions which can sometimes be questionable. This is the case here since certainly Roger Ver praises the merits of a valiant Ethereum blockchain thanks to Layer 2, however, the speech of Vitalik Buterin seems to evoke opposite concernscalling on the contrary to minimalism.
