A captivating underwater adventure awaits you on February 21 at the cinema on the occasion of the theatrical release of the animated film The Kingdom of the Abyss. This ambitious work full of surprises is revealed in a stunning trailer.

Next February 21 at the cinema, dive into The Kingdom of the Abysses for an underwater adventure that will amaze you. After Monkey King: Hero is Back, the new film by Chinese director Tian Xiaopeng is already shaping up to be a real slap in the face thanks to its sublime animation.

Presented at the 2023 Annecy Festival, this feature film takes spectators on a spectacular odyssey into a flamboyant and magical world, as the trailer reveals. A major project that required more than seven years of hard work to see the light of day!

The Kingdom of the Abyss tells the story of Shenxiu, a 10-year-old girl sucked into the depths of the sea during a family cruise. She discovers the fantastic universe of the abyss, an unknown world populated by incredible creatures. In this mysterious place emerges the Restaurant des abysses, run by the emblematic Captain Nanhe. Pursued by the Red Ghost, their road will be strewn with trials and many secrets…

To offer viewers an extraordinary experience, Tian Xiaopeng opted for new animation techniques. The “ink particle painting” effect “helps merge the impressionism of Chinese ink painting with the realism of computer animation, thereby preserving the spontaneity and individuality of ink painting while maintaining the depth of field of the scene, as well as variations in shadow and light,” explains the director.
