The Last of Us: A third installment could be released if Naughty Dog finds the right story to tell – The Last of Us: Part II

Since the release of The Last of Us Part II, many players are wondering if Naughty Dog has plans to develop a third game. Not long ago, Neil Druckmann gave some answers about the future of the license.

Indeed, Neil Druckmann was recently interviewed by BuzzFeed journalists, particularly about the HBO TV series. However, one of the questions asked was about the future of the license. Neil Druckmann then recalled that the next game, immersed in The Last of Us universe, is the multiplayer standalone, which was announced a few months ago, before adding:

[…] Other than that, I know a lot of people are wondering about The Last of Us Part III and if it will see the light of day or not. […] with The Last of Us, the decision to continue or not is up to us. Our process is the same as we had when we made [The Last of Us] Part II, either if we find a compelling story that has this universal message and statement about love – just like the first and second game did – then we’ll tell that story. If we don’t find that, we have a really strong ending with Part II and that will be the end […]

As you will understand, Naughty Dog does not close the door to a possible The Last of Us Part III. However, we will have to be patient and wait for a new communication from the studio on this subject to know whether or not the license will have the right to a third opus. The question therefore does not yet have its definitive answer.
